New Tunes

Joseph - Native Dreamer Kin:  this album was such a score!  It's kind of like a mix of Birdie and a bit of the Civil Wars, but they have a uniqueness to them too so they're just really a great listen period.
NoNoNo - Pumpin Blood EP:  such fun.  Great car jams.
The Paper Kites - Woodland:  I heard a couple songs by these guys on two different occasions and it wasn't until I Shazamed them both that I knew I needed to hear more.  Great for mellow times and mini adventures.
Sara Bareilles - The Blessed Unrest:  this album is beautiful.  I bought it back in July, around the same time the Civil Wars' new album came out.  It wasn't until mid January that I really listened to the words and appreciated how well the songs are written and the depth behind all the lyrics.

What are y'all listening to?  I love discovering new music as the seasons change :)

Tunes

It's been a while since I've shared what I'm listening to

The Civil Wars - The Civil Wars: this album is amazing.  It came out in July and I've listened to it almost everyday since.  The way their voices work together is so magical!
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours: A classic.
Lorde - Pure Heroine: Constantly on repeat.
Little Comets - Life is Elsewhere:  Make sure you listen to W-O-E and Worry.

Folk Fest 2013

This weekend I got to go to the Folk Fest!  It's a music festival at Jericho Beach in Vancouver that takes place every summer.  I've been a few times but I think this year was definitely my favourite.  In previous years it's been a family affair with mom, dad, Zoe, my aunt and my uncle.  But this year it was just me and my aunt and my uncle.  I loved it!  I don't see them very often so it was great to get to spend a whole day with them!  There was a ton of great food, amazing vendors selling all sorts of different stuff and absolutely fantabulous music playing all day long!  By far, one of the best days of my summer!

Taylor Swift

^Spotted: Taylor Swift's mom^
^Just a couple of "T-Swizzlers" hangin out waiting for the show to start^
^Ed Sheeran killed it!  I never knew he was a one man band!^
^42 000 people all in red^

^We stopped counting after 15^

Last weekend Zoe and I went and saw the sold out Taylor Swift concert.  It was quite the production: fireworks, multiple costume changes, a bunch of dancers, and lots of singing/dancing.  Zoe knew all the songs and sang along for most of it.  I only knew a few of the songs but when I did, boy did I scream 'em.   A co-worker had given me a $30 parking pass for free so after the concert Zoe and I scooted out and headed home with our ears still ringing.

judge an album by it's artwork

I love all the artwork on these albums almost as much as I love the music on them!

1. Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City: fun and great to listen to in the car.
2. She & Him - Volume 3: reminds me of old movies and London :)
3. Ingrid Michaelson - Without You: first heard on the Grey's Anatomy season finale, been on repeat ever since
4. Emma Louis - Vs Head Vs Heart: pretty and mellow for the most part but is upbeat enough to not put you to sleep or make you bored - perfect to listen to while crafting

Mumford & Sons

^^ cutest proposal ever! ^^

Last night I went to my first concert of the summer and what a way to start it all off!  Mumford & Sons is definitely very high up on my list of awesome bands.  They've got great lyrics, sound amazing live and put on a great show!  What more could you ask for!

Next up for me is T. Swizzle - known to most of the world as Taylor Swift.  It was a Christmas gift to my sister for us to go to her concert together and I am very much looking forward to it!

Happy weekending!

Finals Mix

Life has made me pretty unproductive on this thing but I'm trying...
I've been studying for finals the last couple weeks and have cooped up inside with books and my laptop for days and days and days.  The only thing getting me through (aside from food) is the music I've been listening to.  I don't really listen to stuff with lyrics while I'm studying but when I take my breaks I need to be energized and pumped up!

This mix pretty much sums up how I feel at all different times of the day while I'm studying for my finals!

1. Phosphorescent: Ride On/Right On.  This song rocks.  It's fun, upbeat and a great pick-me-up
2. Capital Cities: Safe and Sound.  I'm not a huge fan of electronic-y stuff but this is an exception.
3. Icona Pop: I Love It.  I'm pretty sure I was the last one to hear about this song...
4. Devendra Banhart: Golden Girls.  This song is pretty mellow and chill and good for unwinding.
5. Joy Formidable: Whirring.  It's got a toe-tapping beat and the chick has a cool voice.
6. Cold War Kids: Miracle Mile.  Kind of reminds me of the Killers.  I like.
7. Jets Overhead: Boredom and Joy.  An awesome Victoria band with an awesome song.
8. Rhye: Woman.  This entire album is so relaxing.  It is the only one with lyrics that I will listen to while studying.
9. Snoop Lion and Miley Cyrus: Ashtrays and Heartbreaks.  Judge me if you want but I enjoy it.
